1. Troy
Troy was where the journey to the homeland began. Why does it start there? Well, Odysseus came to Troy to fight in the Trojan War, which they won with his cunning idea to hide in a giant wooden horse. The Greeks made the Trojans believe it to be a gift, so they let the horse inside the high walls. Ultimately, the Greeks came out of the wooden horse at night and destroyed the city, which led to their victory.
Now, if I were to visit the ruined city, I would not have enjoyed the despair and death that filled up there. I would honestly rate it a 3 out of 10, especially because there's nowhere to stay after everything was destroyed.
But in real life, the place I visited that is allegedly supposed to be Troy was the hill of Hisarlik in Turkey.
The street food there was immaculate, from the kumpir to the Turkish ice cream. Kumpir is similar to a baked potato except it's better. It was not only filled with potato, but it had different seasonings with various vegetables and meat on it. I also had to get Turkish ice cream as the sweet tooth that I am. It was creamy and thick since it was made with goat's milk.
Now, for the food challenge, the short ice cream server said I had to eat 20 cones of Turkish ice cream to get them for free. It started off light when I was 5 cones in. Halfway through, I started questioning if I was still the sweet tooth I say I am. After 15, I still powered through since there were only 5 left. I was extremely ecstatic when I only had to eat one left. Finally, I finished, and the server said he had never seen someone eat that much ice cream. I guess you could say I was one of the firsts.
The people there were warm and welcoming since it was a small town. I went on a tour of the archaeological sites, and the ruins were mind-boggling. Yes, mind-boggling! The place was enormous with the crumbled walls, remains of buildings and homes, and the high pillars that depicted the ancient city's riches and prosperity.
As the mythology geek I am, I had to rate this place a 9 out of 10, mainly for the Trojan ruins.
